Eminent German physician and psychiatrist Alois Alzheimer first brought the information about Alzheimer’s disease in 1906. Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disease about which great studies are still continuing for diagnosis and treatment.

Alzheimer’s disease is a fatal and progressive brain disease which has engulfed about 5.3 million of people in its grasp. Alzheimer’s disease causes memory loss by destroying the brain cells and creating the problems with thinking and social behavior. Now, in today’s date Alzheimer’s disease is the 7th leading reason of death.

Effects of Alzheimer's

Alzheimer’s disease at first affects the parts of the brain that involve thinking, memory and language. A person suffering from Alzheimer’s disease initially starts forgetting the name of the persons then their faces have trouble in speech, writing and reading. Later on they get aggressive and think absurd things. It is very stressful for an Alzheimer’s patient and their relatives.

The cause of Alzheimer’s disease is believed by many scientist is that increase in production accumulation of a certain kind of protein (beta-amyloid protein) in brain cause to nerve cell death of a person. This disease mainly increases after 70 years age.
The risk factors of Alzheimer’s are like high blood pressure, coronary heart disease diabetes or increase of cholesterol level in blood.

Normally dementia means loss of memory and intellectual abilities but 50-80 % of dementia is occurred due to Alzheimer’s. It is the most common type of dementia tat is observable among the people.

Brain and Alzheimer’s

As our body get changed our brain also change on growth. In our brain there are 100 million neurons are present but they are specified to different works like thinking , memory, learning , smell speech , muscle movement etc. in Alzheimer’s these abilities start losing as nerve cells get damaged or die.

The two abnormal structure plaques (deposit of protein fragment beta –amyloid) and tangles (twisted fibers of another protein called Tau) are the suspected ones in damaging of nerve cells.
